Ella, submerged in grief at the loss of her child, walks away from her life, her family and even her husband. She finds herself even leaving her country, Australia for England and there, despite the sympathy and support of her Uncle Felix, she still cannot find her way past the pain. It will take a whole shift in perspective and the embracing, rather than the suppressing of memories that will pave the way for healing.

I sympathised with Ella to the point of finding myself talking back to the other characters when they were trying to pull her out of her grief. Lucas is a father figure and emotional rock for Ella, and her step-brother, Charlie is sweet and supportive and lightens the emotional toll for all of us with the gentle humour his character adds to the story.

The House of Memories will take you inside a family that finds the structure of their relationships on the verge of collapse and then rebuilt on the foundation of acceptance, love and forgiveness.
