Designing Woman is a 1957 film starring Gregory Peck as Mike Hagen and Lauren Bacall as his new bride Marilla.
Their first big mistake was marrying soon after they met while holidaying in California. When they get back to New York and find how different they, and their lives are- the trouble begins.
Marilla is a fashion designer with a glamourous apartment, fine clothes,a maid and eccentric friends.Mike is a sports writer, a down-to-earth guy, with a gorgeous ex-girlfriend,and he is also in trouble with some shady characters. It doesn’t take long for the honeymoon phase to slide into chaos.
This comedy is eye candy. The wardrobe is lovely- especially the red dress/coat combo Bacall wears in New York. Her apartment captured me when I was a child, with its white sofa and bright throw pillows- She had no children!
Gregory Peck is always great in my opinion and is a believable match as love interest to Lauren Bacall. I revisit this movie often- it is classic 1950’s and a lot of fun.
